The number 108 connects cosmic distance with subtle human anatomy: the distance between the Earth and Sun is ~108 times the Sun diameter, and the human subtle body holds 108 primary energy channels converging at the Anahata (heart) center.
During Japa, rotate beads using the thumb and middle finger. The index finger represents ego and must not touch the holy beads.
The head bead is the Sumeru (Guru bead). Upon reaching Sumeru, never cross it; reverse the mala to begin the next cycle.
